Dependencies are the relationships among tasks which determine the order in which activities need to be performed. There are four (4) types of dependency relationships. Show Types of dependencies
Dependencies are the relationships of the preceding tasks to the succeeding tasks. Tasks may have multiple preceding tasks and multiple succeeding tasks. The most common dependency relationship is a finish-to-start relationship. Task P (predecessor) must be finished before task S (successor) can start. The least common relationship is the start-to-finish relationship. Project Insight, project management software, supports all four dependency relationships. Product Development Activity List The chart above shows how a Product Development Activity List may look after the project team determines the task relationships. In our example, only finish-to-start relationships were used. It is always easier to arrange all tasks in terms of a finish-to-start relationship and an 'as soon as possible' constraint. This dependency type is the easiest relationship for others to understand and will usually result in a longer than normal schedule. This gives the schedule more 'slack.' You may then utilize the other relationships as ways to shrink the duration of the overall schedule. If you use finish-to-start and as soon as possible, you will be able to change the schedule in Project Insight, project management software, with just a couple of mouse clicks. << Previous | Next >> Project resource allocation and resource management Ready to Get Started? question The first step in creating a WBS is to ____. question If any task along the critical path falls behind schedule, the entire project is delayed. question In addition to tasks, every project has ____, which are reference points used to monitor progress and manage the project. question Project managers always must be aware of the ____ path, so they can monitor the vital tasks and keep the project on track. question Effective project reporting requires ____. answer strong communication skill question Project status meetings give project managers an opportunity to seek input and conduct brainstorming sessions. question The purpose of quantitative risk analysis is to understand the actual impact in terms of dollars, time, project scope, or quality. question When maintaining schedules, if enough ____ and frequent checkpoints exist, problems will be detected rapidly question When several tasks can take place at the same time, each is called a sequential task. question In any project, large or small, tasks depend on each other and must be performed in a sequence. question A project manager's scheduling function _____. answer involves staffing, which includes selecting the project team and assigning specific tasks to team members question A(n) ____ chart displays complex task patterns and relationships. question Microsoft's risk management model includes ____ answer category, which specifies the risk type question Although a Gantt chart provides more detailed information about a project, a PERT/CPM chart offers a rapid overview that graphically displays the timing, duration, and progress of each task. question Structured walk-throughs take place throughout the SDLC and are called ____ reviews, depending on the phase in which they occur. answer code design testing question In the end, every successful information system must ____. answer support business requirements stay within budget be completed on time question A project manager, or project leader, usually is a senior systems analyst or an IT department manager if the project is large. question PERT/CPM is called a(n) ____ technique, because it analyzes a large, complex project as a series of individual tasks. question Most managers recognize that problems do occur on most projects; it is better to alert management sooner rather than later. question The Apptivo ____ is free of charge with unlimited duration. question A project triangle shows three legs: _____. answer project cost, scope, and time When task must be completed one after another? When tasks must be completed one after another, they are called concurrent tasks.
Is a series of tasks that if delayed would affect the completion date of the overall project? The critical path is a chain of linked tasks that directly affects the project finish date. If any task on the critical path is late, the whole project is late.
What involves breaking a project down into a series of smaller tasks?A work breakdown structure (WBS) is a project management tool that takes a step-by-step approach to complete large projects with several moving pieces. By breaking down the project into smaller components, a WBS can integrate scope, cost and deliverables into a single tool.
What is a condition restriction or requirement that the system must satisfy?Constraint. A condition, restriction, or requirement that the system must satisfy. Project Leader. Usually a senior systems analyst or an IT department manager, if the project is large. Bottom-Up Technique.
