• The wings: The two wings are divided into three parts, which convey the message: “Good thoughts, good words, and good deeds.” This means that when you do good things you improve your life.

• The tail: The lowest part of the symbol delivers the opposite message: “Bad reflection, bad words and bad deeds”.

• The two loops: The loops in the lower part of the symbol represent the struggle between positive and negative forces. It tells you to follow positive things and turn your back on negative things.

• The central ring: The central ring represents the eternal nature of the universe. It symbolises that there is no beginning and no end.

The history behind the Faravahar symbol
Faravahar is a symbol very dear to ancient Iranians. Despite deriving from the ancient Persian religion Zoroastrianism, nowadays it has lost its religious significance and is considered a cultural symbol.

Faravahar means ‘guardian angel’ and represents life after death. It says that if you behave well during your life on earth you will be compensated with a good life after death.

Today this meaning has been extended to everyday life.

1. Kopf: Das Gesicht des Farvahar Symbols gleicht dem menschlichen Kopf und stellt damit die Verbindung zum Menschen her. Das Gesicht zeigt in die Richtung des Flügels, welches für das Positive im Menschen steht.
2. Hand: Die rechte Hand des zoroastrischen Symbols mit ausgestreckten Fingern symbolisiert den Fortschritt (Hand zeigt nah vorne) und die stetige Entwicklung des Menschen. In der linken Hand wird ein Ring gehalten, das ein Zeichen der Treue ist.
3. Mitte: Der Kreis in der Mitte des Farvahar Symbols spiegelt die Unendlichkeit der menschlichen Seele dar, welche im zoroastrischen Glauben kein Anfang und kein Ende hat.
4. Schleife: Sowohl auf der linken als auch auf der rechten Seite des Symbols finden sich die Schleifen, welche sich unter den beiden Flügeln erstrecken. Die linke Schleife steht für „Sepanta Mainyu“ die gute Kraft – auch hier zeigt das Gesicht in die „gute“ Richtung. Die rechte Schleife symbolisiert die schlechte Kraft „Angra Mainyu“ – das Gesicht wendet den Rücken zur „schlechten“ Richtung.
5. Rumpf: Der Rumpf besteht aus drei Reihen von Federn, die für die Gedanken, Worte und Taten des Menschen stehen.
6. Flügel: Das zoroastrische Farvahar Symbol hat einen linken und rechten Flügel mit jeweils drei Feder-Reihen, die eine zentrale Rolle im Glauben von Zarathustra spielen. Die drei Feder-Reihen des linken Flügels stehen für „Gute Gedanken“, „Gute Worte“ und „Gute Taten“. Die drei Feder-Reihen des rechten Flügels stehen für das Gegenteil „Schlechte Gedanken“, „Schlechte Worte“ und „Schlechte Taten“. Auch hier zeigt das Gesicht des Farvahar Symbols in die Richtung des Guten.
