PurposePursuit of the University of California mission of teaching, research and public service requires a shared commitment to the core values of the University as well as a commitment to the ethical conduct of all University activities. In that spirit, the Standards of Ethical Conduct are a statement of our belief in ethical, legal and professional behavior in all of our dealings inside and outside the University. Show ApplicabilityThe Standards of Ethical Conduct apply to all members of the University community, including The Regents, Officers of The Regents, faculty and other academic personnel, staff, students, volunteers, contractors, agents and others associated with the University. Organizationally, theStandards apply to campuses, the National Laboratories, the Office of the President, the Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources, campus organizations, foundations, alumni associations and support groups.
What is standard behavior in ethics?Ethical behavior includes honesty, fairness, integrity and understanding. There are several ways to encourage an ethical workplace culture, including establishing a company-wide code of ethics.
Are standards of appropriate and proper behavior?A morality is a set of rules to guide the actions of an individual human being. Rand says about it “a code of values to guide man choice and actions. Morals are judgments, standards and rules of good conduct in the society. They guide the people toward permissible behaviour with regard to basic values.

What does ethics refer to?Ethics examines the rational justification for our moral judgments; it studies what is morally right or wrong, just or unjust. In a broader sense, ethics reflects on human beings and their interaction with nature and with other humans, on freedom, on responsibility and on justice.
