Blue Essence was first released at the beginning of
Season 2016 as a way to not spend
- Blue Essence is used to:
- Purchase champions (through the Store, or with champions shards).
- Purchase Hextech Crafting mystery champion shards.
- Purchase additional rune pages.
- Upgrade a champion mastery to level 6 or 7.
- Purchase chromas whenever they're on sale.
- Purchase exclusive contents in the Essence Emporium.
- Change your summoner name.
Acquiring Blue Essence
Leveling up
- Between summoner levels 1 and 30, the player periodically receives Blue Essence as a direct level-up milestone reward, alongside access to the games features. They may also be rewarded with champion shards, alternatively to or in addition to direct BE.
- Starting from summoner level 5, Champion Capsules are awarded at level ups. These capsules can grant BE to the player directly, or they can contain champion shards that can either be disenchanted to obtain BE or upgraded using BE to permanently unlock the champion.

First Win of the day
Blue Essence can also be obtained with the First Win of the Day mission which grants
Missions and Events
Some missions, during events, rewards the player with Blue Essence. Notably, the
Awakening set of mission rewards the player with
Some events award unique currency (tokens) for completing missions and playing. These currencies can then be used to craft additional rewards in Hextech Crafting. Blue Essence has been one of the exchangeable rewards, often for the leftover currency due to their low price.
