Warning… Spoilers below!

On Station 19 Season 5 Episode 16, Andy tries to cope with her new reality after pleading not guilty to a first degree manslaughter charge regarding Jeremy’s death.

The World Turned Upside Down

After her bail and court date are set, Andy sees the headlines that claim she’s a firefighter that killed a fellow firefighter. Her friends help her move while she reads all the negative comments people are saying about her online.

Vic finally snatches her phone away from her, and tells Andy that she’s going to keep staying over to make sure that she’s okay. When Andy presses her, Vic reluctantly tells Andy that Theo got assigned to Station 19. Andy is upset, knowing that Chief Ross is about to suspend her at their later meeting.

After Theo gets a warm welcome to Station 19, the firefighters watch a news broadcast where Chief Dixon announces that he’s running for mayor. Travis is obviously upset.

When A Stranger Calls

Andy’s mom Elena walks into the firehouse and asks Vic and Sullivan where Andy is. They’re reluctant to give her any information, until she reveals to them who she is.

Sullivan goes to talk to Elena, and reveals that he and Andy were married. Sullivan warns her that Andy might not be very receptive to her presence, especially given the current circumstances. Elena just wants to know that Andy is okay. As the team rushes out to an emergency, Sullivan promises to call Andy for her.

Ripping Off the Band-Aid

Andy goes to meet Chief Ross early, and they bond over how messed up the system is. Chief Ross remembers she was supposed to visit Station 42, and invites Andy along so that they can talk in the car.

Andy tells Chief Ross that she just needs to get back to work, and asks her about her reassignment. From the look on Chief Ross’s face, though, Andy knows that she’s not getting reassigned. Chief Ross reminds Andy that any firefighter convicted of a felony has to be suspended. The two argue, and Chief Ross says Andy should be lucky that as a woman of color, she has the firefighters behind her. This only makes Andy more upset, and she tries to make Chief Ross drop her off, but Chief Ross isn’t done with their conversation.

A Shocking Discovery

Carina and Maya lead Jack into the room where he can give them his sample. It’s incredibly awkward, so Carina rushes to give him instructions and get out. Right as they’re about to leave, Jack gets a message from genetic testing. It says that he has a brother.

Jack freaks out, and reveals that the only contact information for his brother is an email. Maya gets excited for him, especially when it appears that Jack is an uncle. Carina interrupts them, saying they can’t handle that extra drama today, they have to focus on the task at hand.

Carina freaks out, saying that Jack used to have nobody, but now he does. Jack can tell her emotions are heightened, so he doesn’t know how to take it, but he decides to leave when tensions seem high between Maya and Carina.

A Miraculous Save

Station 19 shows up to a fire and rushes to rescue the trapped civilians. When they become suspicious of the owner, Travis and Vic ask him if anyone else is in the building that they need to save. He says there aren’t, but Travis has a hunch that a sweat shop of some kind is being run from the building. Travis asks a security guard that they rescued the same question, and he hesitantly reveals that there’s a hidden room in the building where people are trapped.

The worker leads the firefighters to the secret room over the radio. They find about a dozen women trapped in there, and get them outside to safety.

Vic and Travis watch as the owner shakes hands with Chief Dixon. They try to talk to the women they saved, and they’re scared, but Travis reassures them that they aren’t in any trouble. He finds a cut on one of the girl’s hand, and she reveals that when she was hurt, she wasn’t allowed to leave to go to a doctor. She said the owner told them if they went outside the walls, they’d be in trouble.

When Chief Ross gets to the scene, she makes Andy stay in the car. Travis frantically reveals the issue with the trafficked girls to Chief Ross, and Chief Dixon tries to intervene. Travis gets more and more upset at Chief Dixon defending the man who did this, to the point where he has to be held back by his fellow firefighters.

Andy sees Chief Dixon and the owner walk away, and gets out of the car. Chief Ross attempts to stop her, but Andy defends herself, saying she isn’t a child and that Chief Ross is treating her like everybody else. She accuses Chief Ross of being just as much a part of the messed up system as everyone else, by trying to diminish her.

Vic watches as the police take away the women. Chief Ross assures them that they’re getting a lawyer to help them the best they can, but Travis isn’t satisfied by that answer. He’s appalled at the fact that modern-day slavery is happening right under their noses, and Chief Ross isn’t doing anything about it.

Sullivan can tell Chief Ross is upset, and she sets boundaries with him, saying in not so many words that he doesn’t need to call her anymore.

A New Family

Carina wants to apologize to Jack, and when she opens the door to talk to him, she bumps into him, and he spills his sample onto the floor. Carina starts bawling, realizing that she’s a hormonal mess. Despite everything, she still wants today to be a good day where they begin making a family.

Not long later, Jack delivers the sample while Carina and Maya are in the middle of something, and they get ready to make their family.

Facing a Problem Head On

Theo attempts to calm Travis by telling him a story about a snake and a saw, which ends up being a metaphor for needing to take bigger steps to get rid of Dixon. Theo hints at the fact that maybe Travis should run against Dixon for mayor.

Perfect Timing

Andy sees her mom in the hallway to her place, and after a moment of silence, Andy sobs as she falls into Elena’s arms.

Elena opens up to Andy about her own assault. She tells Andy that she’s glad that Jeremy is dead, and Andy thanks her for teaching her how to defend herself. After they bond over the system not being on their side, Elena gets up and turns on music. The two begin dancing together, because there’s no better solution than dancing it out.
